Slightly Smiling Face emoji

🙂 · Smileys & Emotion › Smiling faces · Emoji 1.0 (2015)

What does 🙂 mean?

🙂 is a plain yellow face with a small, closed-mouth smile.

It was meant as a friendly smile, and to many people it still is. To others, younger users especially, it reads as a tight, forced smile: polite on the surface and annoyed underneath, as in 'fine 🙂'. If you want to come across as warm, 😊 is the safer choice.
