Loudly Crying Face emoji

😭 · Smileys & Emotion › Concerned faces · Emoji 0.6 (2010)

What does 😭 mean?

😭 is a face sobbing with its mouth wide open and two rivers of tears pouring down. On paper, it's the saddest face in the whole set.

In practice it's mostly used for laughing. Something is so funny, so cute or so relatable that you're 'crying'. It also covers being overwhelmed in a good way, like your favorite band announcing a tour, and sometimes real sadness. If a friend sends 😭 after a meme, they're laughing. If they send it after 'my cat is sick', they're not.
